The team at Body Conquest

But It Said It In A Magazine....

on Saturday, 18 January 2014.

"For a more effective workout, prioritise your "spot" training. The first place you exercise gets the hardest workout and most "toning." This was the first piece of text I read on the very first non-advertisement page of the issue. The 'tip' then proceeded to suggest that if you want a firm butt, do squats first, but if you want washboard abs, do crunches first!

People, there is no such thing as spot training and you will not 'tone' any part of your body more than another by doing the exercise first! You will not get visible abs unless you lose weight from your entire body and work extremely hard! Doing hundreds of crunches every day will not do anything except weaken your back. Spot reduction (asking your body to lose weight in a particular area) is like you asking your car to drive you home from the gym only using fuel from the left hand side of the tank!!!!!

Yet another Biggest loser trainer decided to sell out, shamelessly plugging fat-burning workout pants all the way through an interview. Apparently these pants are "caffeine-infused garments that banish cellulite". Please, ladies, don't waste your money on this crap – no matter who promotes it. If you want to get rid of cellulite get the blood moving and do some deadlifts! Oh yeah and just to add my really smarty-pants comment tongue in cheek...if cellulite cream got rid of inner thigh fat wouldn't you get thin fingers rubbing it on!!!!!??????

Ohhh, Your Legs "Bulk" Up REALLY Quickly

on Friday, 17 January 2014.

So last night being Thursday 16th Jan 2014 I had an initial consultation with a woman at roughly 35% body fat who said "If I look at a squat rack, my legs "blow up".....and that "I eat well"...weellllll, really gently, no you don't (but that is for another story).

The majority of women who come to me for training advice usually say one of three things:

1. I've always had really big thighs. I played X sport when I was younger so my thighs have always been very developed.

2. I put on muscle in my legs in seconds, but I can't develop any upper body muscle or strength.

3. Can we avoid any isolated leg exercises? I don't want to get even more bulky.

I can tell you now that only 1-2 per cent of the female populations actually have naturally big and muscular legs. In fact when and if I ever get a budding figure girl with quads and hammies, I do a happy dance!! Seriously. I may even involve my staffy Milly in the happy dance!!!!Before you try to convince me that you're in that minority, hear me out. Unless you're this lucky lady:

Interview WIth Figure Girl - Joy Flint

on Friday, 06 December 2013.

I never really dieted as such because I love
cooking, have a family and did not want to restrict myself from too many nutritional things. Yes, I cut out carbs
2 weeks out, depleted, carb loaded and water depleted but that is because I thought that was the correct thing to do.
Now that I have got more understanding, I don't think I will go through that again. I use my body as an experiment. Sweet potato didn't work for me when carb loading, so I changed to white potato. What I will do the next time, I'll just have
to wait and see. I still was a bit naughty and ate chocolate most days!!

Compassion for yourself! – and why it's more helpful than your mind is currently telling you!

on Friday, 29 November 2013.

Research indicates that in comparison to self-esteem, self-compassion is associated with greater emotional resilience, as well as less stress and anger. And all this helps you focus on the important things, rather than being up in your head! So it becomes easier for you to enhance your performance, be that in sport, or relationships, because you are completing the goals you want to and being the person you actually want to be! This in itself enhances your well-being and contentment... All of a sudden you feel good (and hopefully great) because you are doing the things you want to, and you're finally dropped the need to chase a feeling of happiness all the time.

Close-Grip Bench Press

When it comes to triceps it never fails to amaze me why girls
often gravitate to exercises such as dumbbell kickbacks and triceps press downs. Sure they have their place. But we know that generally speaking in most scenarios you are always best to perform a compound exercise over an isolation one. So what are our options when it comes to triceps? Two – the dip and the
close-grip bench press. In my experience most beginners and intermediates do not perform dips with great execution so I am a real fan of the close-grip bench press. They will allow you to use more weight, mimic the bench press and will help as an ancillary movement to improve your bench press (not many figure
trainees do super impressive lifts in the bench press in my opinion) and recruit more muscle fibres than say a triceps pressdown.

Interview With Cairns Local - Rebecca Tobler

on Friday, 15 November 2013.

What advice would you give to other women looking to get into shape?

Just start! Everybody has to start somewhere! We were newbies at some stage and that person in the gym who didn't know their way around and felt out of their depth. Find a great coach or trainer to ensure you are using correct technique and schedule your workouts in each day as if they were part of your job. That way working out becomes a non-negotiable.

It is so true that it is 80% nutrition and 20% training. Nail your nutrition and supplementation and you'll be well on your way.
Be consistent and persistent! The results will come if you keep at it each and every day...live the lifestyle, it is fantastic!

Short, Sharp and Snappy

No carb diets...

Great if you want the tolerance of a scitzo on ICE and
the sex drive of a neutered flea.

Number 1 Favourite Pig Out Food

Pizza, but really the list could go on

An Old Nutrition Myth?

A cheat meal 'tricks' the metabolism. So tell me, just
how do you 'trick' a metabolism?

Favourite Diet Food

Steak, steak and more steak.

Interview With Nicky Jacobson

on Friday, 25 October 2013. Posted in Competition

Toughest part of competition? Toughest for me is being selfish. It's the time away from my Family and friends that I struggle with. Also giving up chocolate. Lol...Not that I have it on a daily
basis but when I crave it, I want to have it!

How To Get Your Lats Out For Figure

on Wednesday, 23 October 2013.

Also concerning your breath, you will need to practice this technique enough so that you can hold the ribcage and lats open
and still breathe normally – don't hold your breath! This is a big no-no in general but especially so for a carb- and water-depleted athlete under heavy stage lighting in a slightly warm auditorium.

Metabolic Damage and Competing

on Friday, 11 October 2013.

Over the past five or six years both sports model and figure divisions have enjoyed an explosion of growth here in Australia, especially with the two natural federations having grown so rapidly in numbers of late. As much as this is fantastic for our beloved sport that supposedly espouses the ethos of 'health' and 'fitness' there is a most unwelcome trend that has reared its ugly head of late namely 'metabolic damage', or 'metabolic crashing'. In fact it would appear with more and more girls speaking up that it is around us in epidemic numbers. This is disturbing.

Thinking Of Competing In 2014?

on Thursday, 26 September 2013.

Competing is also not just about creating a great body. It is about standing out from your competition on stage. Each category has their respective requirements but you will need to pay attention to your presentation, your bikini, your skin colour, your hair, make up and jewelry, tan, demeanor....the list goes on

Do You Even Lift Sister?

on Wednesday, 25 September 2013.

What I have witnessed already at the shows this season, and also with applications to compete under Body Conquest is a real plethora of girls who have it in their heads to compete 'as soon as possible' without really assessing whether they have the physique to do it. What I will say in the post from the outset is that I am clearly a fan and an advocate of women getting on stage. I think it is a wonderful experience. I do question though, the amount of girls competing at the moment without looking like they weight train. Honestly, this is a reality whether people wish to call it or not. Some girls simply do not, in my opinion,
have the lean mass to present in a half decent manner in figure or physique classes.

Get Your Backside Ready For The Beachside

on Wednesday, 18 September 2013.

Individuals who sleep less also produce more cortisol and tend to experience increased appetite as a result. This is usually a craving for sugary
foods in a vain attempt to boost energy. Sleep will also help you feel energetic, motivated and experience more mental clarity. You need all these to succeed at sticking to your fat loss goals. A tired brain is more likely to throw in the towel.

The Benefits Of Not Placing

on Tuesday, 17 September 2013.

The more you learn and work hard at this, the more you will see results—in all areas of
your life, not just the competing side!! The judges may not have seen thechampion in you yet, but I see her...and she'll be back next year!

Contest Prep And Partners - All You Need To Know

on Thursday, 12 September 2013.

Comp prep time is as good a time as any to hone and refine your communication skills. If you are in the midst of deciding to compete for the first time (maybe in Season A 2014) perhaps make a mutual decision to compete....or at the very least, have a deep and meaningful about what comping means and flag up what they can expect. Explain to your partner that they may witness a lot of emotional ups and downs. If you wish to compete on a regular basis you'll develop survival skills for these contests and your partner will too!!!
